Our Mission

ThinkWell Centre for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy was founded with the simple vision of providing Kingston residents access to cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). CBT is arguably the most popular form of psychotherapy among clinicians and the general public alike, and yet in speaking with our community, we know there are still too many barriers to accessing this therapy that works

Our mission is to remove some of the barriers to getting help, not just by providing access to CBT itself, but also by offering access to the information needed to take the guesswork out of starting therapy. We believe that therapy is an investment of time, energy, and money, and we don’t want the unknown to stop you from taking action. With this goal in mind, we’ve created a website for you to explore and gather the information you need to start picturing—even before you pick up the phone to book your first appointment—how CBT can work for you.

Once you take the next step of connecting with us, we pride ourselves in creating the welcoming, nonjudgmental, and professional environment that allows you to feel safe to fully engage in the therapy process with us. But instead of hooking you with this supportive environment, we are passionate about giving you the tools to become your own therapist—one who has the confidence to say goodbye to us, maintain and keep building on your gains independently, and get back to doing what matters most to you.

It’s hard for me to pick what I love most about being a psychologist, but one of the things that’s certainly up there is when a client gets first-hand experience of how CBT can work for them and concludes “they should teach this in school.” What I love about those moments is that I get to see when the lightbulb goes off and clients realize that there’s not something wrong with them, they’ve just never been taught the strategies they need to understand and respond effectively to painful emotions. And with that realization, they’re off to the races, and I get to be along for the ride.

The gains I’ve seen people make through CBT fuel my passion to keep updating my training so that my clients can benefit from the newest developments in the CBT field. I won’t oversell my services—nothing’s a sure thing—but I will communicate a confidence in CBT and how it can work for you until you see it work for yourself.

I tend to work with people experiencing issues related to mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, emotion regulation difficulties, interpersonal relationship difficulties, problematic substance use, and general issues adjusting to life stressors. While completing my master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology at The University of Western Ontario, I trained in various settings, including a university counselling center, forensic psychiatric hospital, operational stress injury clinic, outpatient dialectical behaviour therapy clinic, and fertility clinic.

Before founding ThinkWell CBT, I worked for Correctional Service Canada providing psychological assessments, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, gender-affirming care for trans and gender-diverse people, clinical supervision of other mental health professionals, and management of a large interdisciplinary mental health team.

I am a member in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (Practice # 5857), authorized for autonomous practice with adults in the areas of Clinical and Forensic/Correctional Psychology.
